WELCOME

[11.7.07] Winter is my favorite time of year to begin harvesting wood. It's quality time that I get to spend with my boys hunting down just the right pieces to add to my inventory -- nevermind the fact that we nearly kill ourselves trying to heave the huge burls into the back of my truck. Nonetheless, it's a great experience that allows us to take what would be a worthless stump, "save it" and transform it into something beautiful. The best part? It's free - courtesy of mother nature!

I've spent the last several weeks finding ways to incorporate new ideas into some of my more standard pieces. I've been pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Here's a glimpse of my latest lidded box creation surrounded by a beautiful cherry burl bowl. It definitely adds a new dimension to the piece.

[5.29.07] As a Father's Day gift this year, my daughter thought it was about time to thrust me into the 21st century and begin displaying my artwork to the online world. Although I enjoy sharing my work with others via local art shows and gallery exhibits, I must admit that I wouldn't have embarked on this little venture alone - but with the dirty work completed, I'm looking forward to hearing feedback from friends and passerbys and finding inspiration in other fellow woodworkers.

For years, I've spent my free time out in my workshop, turning shapeless blocks of wood into unique pieces of art. It's a craft that I learned from my father, and it's a common interest that we continue to share even today. Woodturning is more than my hobby- it's a passion, and a creative outlet to my everyday life as a chemical engineer.
As the years roll on, I find that fewer people are using their hands to build and create things. I love this hobby because it challenges me to be creative, inventive,  experimental, humble (because sometimes - things just don't work), and an eager student. There is always a new technique or look just waiting to be explored.
I hope you'll use this site as a tool. One for inspiration and appreciation for nature's beauty. My goal is to enhance what mother nature has already provided to us in the form of old trees and stumps that would otherwise go unnoticed. So
take a stroll through the gallery and enjoy.
